Bridge Engineer

About the role

AECOM South Africa is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join its Enterprise Capabilities team. You will work on a variety of local and international bridge, culvert, and road/rail structure projects, applying global standards and AECOM’s quality management system.

Key responsibilities

• Design and plan new bridges, culverts, and other road/rail structures in line with TMH7 and relevant codes.
• Develop rehabilitation and upgrade designs for existing bridges and drainage structures.
• Oversee the preparation of construction drawings and ensure they meet project specifications.
• Prepare project specifications, contract documentation, and design reports.
• Inspect bridges and culverts according to TMH19 standards.
• Apply AECOM’s Quality Management System to all deliverables.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of experience, including site work, in bridge and civil structure design.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and deliver accurate results.
• Strong communication skills.
• Degree in Civil Engineering; postgraduate studies in structural or bridge engineering are a plus.
• Accreditation as a Bridge or Culvert Inspector is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency with structural design software such as Midas, Sofistik, RM Bridge, and CSiBridge.
• Familiarity with international bridge design codes (AASTHO, AREMA, Australian Codes, BS, etc.).
