Bookkeeper – Cape Town

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Bookkeeper to join our client’s finance team in Cape Town CBD. Working closely with the Financial Manager, you will handle day‑to‑day bookkeeping, payments and reconciliations using Xero (and optionally Pastel) to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and perform bookkeeping tasks on Xero/Pastel.
• Assist the Financial Manager with ad‑hoc finance duties and reporting.
• Process supplier invoices, run payment batches and reconcile supplier statements.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, follow up on outstanding invoices.
• Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations, allocate payments and handle foreign‑currency transactions.
• Prepare financial schedules, support month‑end and year‑end close, and aid audit and SARS documentation.
• Carry out additional finance and administrative tasks as required.

Required profile

• Financial or accounting certificate/diploma or degree (or currently studying) – advantage but not mandatory.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, junior accounting or similar roles.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Familiarity with Pastel (or similar accounting packages).
