Boiler Engineer – Maintenance & Performance

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Boiler Engineer to provide competent and cost‑effective maintenance and engineering support for our boiler plant. The role focuses on maximizing boiler performance while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance within a pulp and paper environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain standards to increase boiler reliability and safe operation.
• Conduct failure analysis, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are closed.
• Inspect boiler internals during shutdowns and obtain certificates of compliance after modifications or repairs.
• Manage boiler inspection reports and repair data books.
• Assist the Maintenance Manager with long‑term maintenance planning, budgeting, CAPEX and project execution.
• Provide weekly feedback on boiler performance, unresolved engineering issues and monthly project status.
• Support ISO 9000, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18000 compliance, educate the team and monitor adherence.
• Develop safe work procedures, perform critical task analysis and guide lockout/tagout practices during maintenance.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of boiler and turbine experience.
• Experience in the pulp and paper industry is advantageous.
• NQF Level 7 engineering qualification (BSc/BEng/BTech Mechanical Engineering).
• GCC (Factories) certification or permission to write is a plus.
• Management Development Programme or relevant management qualification is a plus.
