Banking & Payments Commercial Manager (South)

About the role

A leading international digital business is seeking an experienced Banking & Payments Commercial Manager to drive payment partnerships, commercial performance and market expansion across multiple African markets. This highly visible role sits at the intersection of Banking, Fintech, Payments, Product, Operations and Commercial Strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage strategic relationships with banks, payment service providers, fintech businesses and other payment partners.
• Source, evaluate and onboard payment solutions across African markets.
• Lead commercial negotiations, pricing discussions and contract reviews with payment partners.
• Monitor payment performance, transaction success rates, service levels and commercial outcomes.
• Analyse trends and partner effectiveness to identify optimisation opportunities.
• Support market expansion initiatives by identifying new banking and payment partnerships.
• Build business cases and commercial models for new payment capabilities and market opportunities.
• Prepare executive‑level reporting on payment performance, opportunities and risks.

Required profile

• Relevant degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting or a related field.
• Proven experience in payments, fintech, banking, merchant acquiring, transaction banking or payment acceptance.
• Strong commercial negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience managing relationships with banks, PSPs, fintech partners and acquiring partners across multiple African markets.
• Analytical, commercial and problem‑solving capability.
• Exposure to merchant acquiring, payment gateways, mobile money (e.g., M‑Pay, MTN MoMo) and alternative payment methods is highly advantageous.
