Backgrounding Farm Manager – Mpumalanga Area

About the role

The Backgrounding Farm Manager will oversee daily cattle backgrounding operations in the Mpumalanga area, ensuring animal health, optimal pasture use, and production targets are met while maintaining overall farm infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Manage cost‑effective backgrounding of cattle, meeting production levels and targets.
• Supervise staff, organise workflow and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Oversee off‑loading of cattle, feed distribution, and hay‑bale feeding.
• Implement pasture and grazing management, including opening new grass and water points.
• Handle cattle intake, paperwork, ear‑tagging, and pharmaceutical ordering.
• Monitor medication usage, morbidity, mortality and maintain health records in the Gigalot Cattle Management System.
• Coordinate logistical disposal of mortality meat and ensure compliance with health‑safety procedures.
• Conduct routine farm maintenance and safety inspections.

Required profile

• Fluent in written and spoken English and Afrikaans.
• Proven experience in high‑pressure grazing and pasture management.
• Ability to work overtime and be available after hours when required.
• Strong organisational and supervisory skills.
