Back-End Software Engineer – ATM Solutions

About the role

Capitec is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join its Cash Devices team in Stellenbosch. The role focuses on developing, integrating and supporting custom ATM solutions that form a critical part of Capitec’s ATM estate. It combines deep Postilion expertise with Java SDK development, emphasizing configuration, integration and operational stability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain custom applications and interfaces using the Postilion SDK.
• Build and support Cash Devices applications and integration solutions for ATMs, POS and related devices.
• Customize and extend Postilion functionality to meet business and operational requirements.
• Develop and maintain SDK‑based integrations using Java.
• Support and upgrade integration drivers between devices and ATM applications.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting and issue resolution for Postilion‑related systems.
• Collaborate with QA, infrastructure and business analyst teams.
• Support patching, upgrades and lifecycle management of ATM software platforms.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in a Postilion systems role.
• At least 5 years of recent experience with Postilion SDK or Java integration‑heavy development.
• Strong understanding of ISO 8583 messaging and ATM transaction flows.
• Experience with ATM device protocols such as Diebold 912 or NCR NDC.
• Proficiency with modern source‑control systems (Git/GitHub) and code‑review processes.
• Scripting experience, preferably PowerShell or Python.
• Solid database knowledge, preferably SQL Server.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and documentation skills.
