Automation Project Manager

About the role

Takealot Fulfilment Solutions is seeking an Automation Project Manager to lead automation and mechanisation projects across its distribution centres in South Africa. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure and Automation, you will be responsible for evaluating technologies, planning, designing and delivering new automated systems from concept to hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement mechanisation infrastructure to support business growth or optimise existing processes.
• Lead procurement of equipment, including drafting and managing RFP documentation.
• Analyse operational workflows and introduce new automation solutions under guidance of senior leadership.
• Manage project budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure cost control.
• Develop viability studies and ROI analyses for proposed projects.
• Engage with suppliers and manage contracts in line with agreed terms.
• Collaborate with operational staff and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and hand‑over.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or B‑Tech in Engineering, preferably Mechatronics or related field.
• Proven experience managing automation or mechanisation projects in a logistics or distribution environment.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on efficiency improvements.
