Associate Professor – Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg seeks an Associate Professor to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science. The role involves teaching, research, and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students within a vibrant, diverse engineering community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mechanical engineering subjects such as Design, Thermodynamics, Thermofluids, Theory of Machines, Manufacturing Methods, Sustainable Energy, and related areas.
• Conduct high‑quality research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and secure external funding where possible.
• Supervise undergraduate projects, honours theses, Master’s dissertations, and PhD research.
• Participate in departmental duties including invigilation, committee work, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience teaching mechanical engineering disciplines at university level.
• Active research record with publications in accredited peer‑reviewed journals.
• Ability to supervise Master’s and Doctoral students.
• Computer literacy in relevant mechanical engineering software packages.

• MATLAB or Mathematica
• LabVIEW (or equivalent)
