Assistant SHEQ Officer - Food Production

About the role

An FMCG company based in Mount Edgecombe, Durban, is looking for an Assistant SHEQ Officer. The role works closely with Operations management to continuously improve standards, with the aim of complying with the OHS Act and Regulations and ISO/GSFI standards, and eventually becoming HACCP compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and implement techniques, processes and procedures to control the quality of all goods stored and supplied.
• Coordinate with principals, suppliers, warehouse and transport management and customers to resolve quality, health and safety, environmental and food safety issues.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and standards on food quality, health and safety, environment and safety, including legislative and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in occupational health and safety management.
• Food production experience (mandatory).
• In-depth knowledge of the OHS Act, its legislation and procedures.
• Experience writing reports and policies for health and safety.

Required skills

• Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
• Data analysis and statistical reporting.
• Proficiency in MS Office; working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
