Assistant Mechanical Draftsperson

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Assistant Mechanical Draftsperson to create detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models for new and existing products. The role works closely with engineering and production teams to turn concepts into manufacturable designs, supporting prototyping and testing activities.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Translate design concepts and sketches into accurate, manufacturable documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers and production staff to refine designs for cost, function and manufacturability.
• Produce and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and revision‑controlled drawing packages.
• Support prototyping, including the use of 3D printing where appropriate.
• Assist in designing plastic injection‑moulded housings, aluminium extrusions and sheet‑metal fabrications.
• Ensure all drawings comply with relevant standards and internal quality processes.
• Participate in supplier sourcing and vetting activities.

Required profile

• Proven competency in Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to visualise components in three dimensions.
• Logical, methodical thinker capable of systematic problem solving.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• At least 3 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a production setting with an understanding of manufacturing constraints.
• Hands‑on experience with 3D printers for prototyping.
• Experience designing product housings, including plastic injection moulded parts, aluminium extrusions and sheet‑metal components.
