About the role
The Department of Military Veterans seeks an Assistant Director for Legal Services to provide high‑quality legal advice, manage litigation, and support legislative drafting for the department.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and opinions to the Ministry and the Department.
- Manage litigation matters both for and against the Department.
- Support contract management to ensure compliance with legal prescripts.
- Draft, amend and review primary and subordinate legislation.
- Conduct legal research and ensure compliance with relevant statutes.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s Degree or LLB (or equivalent) with 3‑5 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of Public Service Administration and key employment legislation.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with internal stakeholders.
Required skills
- Legislative drafting and interpretation of statutes.
- Knowledge of Constitutional law, Civil procedure, Administrative law, PFMA, Treasury Regulations, PAIA, POPI, and the South African court system.
- Strong legal research capabilities.
