Artistic Director for Contemporary Arts Institution

About the role

The Künstlerhaus Stuttgart seeks an Artistic Director to shape and implement a forward‑looking artistic program. You will lead the institution’s exhibition, workshop, and studio activities, fostering dialogue between local communities and international art networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an independent artistic program aligned with the house’s mission.
• Plan and manage logistics, budgets, and event production for exhibitions and projects.
• Secure project financing and cultivate third‑party funding.
• Design and oversee an education program linked to the artistic agenda.
• Document projects, produce publications, and handle press and public relations.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of contemporary cultural production and strong personal responsibility.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and team‑working abilities.
• Professional proficiency in German and/or English.
• Proven experience in project financing and obtaining external funding.
• Public speaking skills and ability to engage with visitors, staff, press, and policymakers.
• Willingness to reside in Stuttgart for the contract duration.
