About the role
The Government Printing Works is seeking an experienced Artisan to operate and maintain mechanised book‑binding equipment. The role involves ensuring high‑quality production of bound materials while supervising junior staff and trainees.
Key responsibilities
- Adjust, run and maintain world‑class mechanised binding production equipment.
- Supervise Printers Assistants, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting.
- Train learners and other Artisans on binding processes and equipment.
- Perform scheduled operator maintenance on binding machines.
- Maintain quality standards and conduct quality assurance checks.
Required profile
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification with a completed apprenticeship and passed trade test in Mechanised Bookbinding.
- At least five years post‑qualification experience in bookbinding.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations.
- Willingness to work extended hours and shift patterns.
- Quality‑conscious attitude.
Required skills
- Operation of Guillotine cutting machines.
- Use of folding machines.
- Proficiency with book sewing machines.
- Handling of hard‑cover and soft‑cover binding machines.
- Experience with craft binding and other finishing equipment.
