Airfreight Imports Controller – Critical Cargo Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Airfreight Imports Controller to manage a live portfolio of time‑critical inbound shipments, from pre‑alert through to final delivery. The role is hands‑on, requiring close interaction with airport handlers, customs colleagues and clients to keep critical cargo moving.

Key responsibilities

• Drive clearance and release in the shortest possible time, coordinating directly with handlers and the customs team.
• Maintain proactive client communication, providing updates before they are requested.
• Escalate early any risk to a critical file and manage after‑hours or weekend duties as part of a rota.
• Action pre‑alerts, verify MAWB, HAWB and manifest accuracy, and track flight arrivals.
• Manage delays, short‑shipments and other disruptions to keep cargo on schedule.

Required profile

• Proven experience in airfreight imports and familiarity with South African airport operations.
• Strong understanding of customs processes and ability to anticipate documentation needs.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve issues without escalating unnecessarily.
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours when critical shipments demand it.

Required skills

• Knowledge of airport handling procedures and SARS customs queries.
• Experience with airfreight documentation (MAWB, HAWB, manifests).

What we offer

• Opportunity to work with a leading South African logistics provider with nearly three decades of experience.
• Dynamic environment handling high‑value aerospace cargo.
• Competitive remuneration package.
