Actuarial Specialist - Savings & Income

About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for an Actuarial Specialist to join a leading financial services environment in Cape Town on a 6‑month contract. The role supports the Savings & Income product team across product development, data analysis, system testing, calculations, production support and the enhancement of business‑as‑usual processes.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse, validate and manage large data sets using Excel, SQL and/or Python, turning data into meaningful insights and supporting business requirements.
• Resolve actuarial and product‑related queries, investigate system and data issues, and provide production and servicing support.
• Build and maintain models and tools for calculations, system validation, reconciliations, regression testing, defect resolution and tax testing.
• Design, document and improve BAU processes for Savings & Income products, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency and improved customer journeys.
• Collaborate with IT, Tax, Legal, Compliance, Product and Operations teams to ensure product, system and process requirements are accurately delivered and aligned with regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• 4+ years of relevant experience in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Financial Services or a similar technical environment.
• Experience in product development or a technically focused role.
• Strong Excel modelling skills and proficiency in SQL and/or Python.
• Strong understanding of actuarial calculations, financial calculations and product rules.
• Experience in system testing, data validation, defect resolution and/or production support.
• Experience with policy administration systems; BaNCS or similar is advantageous.
• Knowledge of Savings & Income products and relevant regulations is beneficial.
• Excellent analytical, numerical and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
• Ability to translate complex technical, product and legislative specifications into practical solutions.
• Proactive, self‑reliant approach with the ability to learn quickly, manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
