Accountant – Mining & Logistics

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant to manage the day‑to‑day accounting and month‑end processes for the Zarbon entities (ZAR, ZFL, ZNG) within a high‑volume coal trading and logistics operation. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will ensure accurate records, clean reconciliations and reliable financial data.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post journals, accruals and pre‑payments for the Zarbon entities.
• Execute monthly bank, balance‑sheet and control‑account reconciliations.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register, including vehicles and equipment.
• Compile month‑end packs for Senior Accountant review.
• Reconcile stock ledgers to the general ledger and investigate variances.
• Validate landed costs on imported goods and support stock counts.
• Process and reconcile supplier accounts, including foreign suppliers and FX differences.
• Perform three‑way matching of purchase orders, GRNs and invoices.
• Issue customer invoices, allocate receipts and reconcile debtor accounts.
• Prepare VAT reconciliations and returns for SARS eFiling.
• Provide inputs for provisional and income tax and maintain audit documentation.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting or equivalent.
• Minimum three years of accounting experience with full month‑end ownership.
• Experience in trading, logistics, distribution or mining preferred.
• Exposure to multi‑currency and import transactions.
• Completed SAICA/SAIPA articles or studying toward a professional designation (preferred).

Required skills

• Working knowledge of IFRS and IFRS for SMEs.
• Inventory and cost accounting principles.
• VAT and SARS compliance.
• Proficiency in Sage, Pastel, SAP or Syspro.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Multi‑currency and foreign‑exchange accounting.
