Accountant – Financial Reporting & Controls

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant to support the Financial Controller in maintaining accurate, complete, and compliant financial records. The role focuses on general ledger management, month‑end close, reconciliations and statutory reporting within a manufacturing/retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by preparing journal entries and supporting documentation.
• Perform monthly balance‑sheet and sub‑ledger reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances.
• Assist with the month‑end close process, prepare trial balances and support management reporting.
• Prepare bank reconciliations, manage payment processing and employee credit‑card reconciliations.
• Support VAT and other statutory submissions, ensuring required documentation is retained.
• Contribute to internal control effectiveness, aiming for ≤2 % post‑reporting adjustments.

Required profile

• BCom degree or equivalent qualification in accounting.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or retail setting.
• Demonstrated experience with general ledger, reconciliations and month‑end processes.
• Ability to provide after‑hours support or standby as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP or accounting systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of VAT and statutory compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting.
