Accountant – Financial Reporting & Compliance

About the role

The Accountant will support the Financial Controller in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and completeness of the company’s financial records. This role focuses on general ledger management, month‑end close, reconciliations and statutory compliance within a manufacturing/retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger and record financial transactions accurately.
• Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Perform monthly balance‑sheet and sub‑ledger reconciliations, investigating variances.
• Support the month‑end close process, produce trial balances and assist with management reporting.
• Prepare bank reconciliations, manage payment processing and employee credit‑card queries.
• Assist with VAT returns and other statutory submissions, ensuring required documentation is retained.
• Contribute to internal control testing, aiming for ≤2 % post‑reporting adjustments.

Required profile

• BCom degree or equivalent with accounting focus.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or retail.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and statutory requirements.
• Ability to work after‑hours support or standby when needed.
