Accountant / Assistant Financial Manager

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant / Assistant Financial Manager to join our Pretoria branch. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions and ensuring compliance with South African tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date financial records and ledgers, record journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Prepare and process invoices, receipts, payments and manage accounts payable and receivable.
• Track fixed assets, depreciation and amortisation schedules; maintain petty cash and reconcile bank accounts.
• Draft correspondence to banks, auditors and suppliers; manage business registrations, renewals and CIPC compliance.
• Calculate and file VAT returns, PAYE, UIF and SDL returns; prepare income tax calculations for SARS.
• Ensure compliance with tax laws, financial regulations and accounting standards; liaise with SARS during audits.
• Assist with cash‑flow reporting and support the yearly external audit.

Required profile

• Matriculation (essential) and a degree or qualification in accounting (non‑negotiable).
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel advanced, Word, Outlook) and accounting software Pastel or Sage Evolution (minimum 2 years recent experience).
