Trainee Accountant – Entry Level (SAIPA Articles)

About the role

This is an entry‑level trainee accountant position based in Garsfontein, Pretoria. The role is designed for candidates ready to start their SAIPA articles and develop practical accounting, tax and business consulting skills within a registered firm serving SME clients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of financial statements for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform monthly accounting and bookkeeping tasks, including transaction capture, bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.
• Conduct basic financial analysis and identify trends or discrepancies under supervision.
• Help prepare and submit tax returns such as VAT, PAYE and income tax.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and periodic reporting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, SAIPA regulations and relevant tax legislation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with Mathematics.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (completed or in progress) to qualify for SAIPA articles.
• Valid driver’s licence, own transport and non‑smoker.
• Excellent written and spoken Afrikaans communication skills.
• Commitment to pursuing the SAIPA qualification.

Required skills

• Knowledge of bookkeeping, financial statement preparation and tax compliance.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reconciliation tasks.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero and SAGE.
