Trainee Accountant – Entry Level Position

About the role

Our client, a registered accounting and tax advisory firm in Pretoria, is looking for a motivated Trainee Accountant to join their team. This is an entry‑level position designed for candidates ready to start their SAIPA articles and develop a solid foundation in accounting, tax, and business consulting for SME clients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing client financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform monthly bookkeeping tasks, including transaction capture, bank reconciliations, and ledger maintenance.
• Conduct basic financial analysis and highlight trends or discrepancies under supervision.
• Support the preparation and submission of tax returns such as VAT, PAYE, and income tax.
• Ensure all work adheres to relevant accounting standards, SAIPA guidelines, and tax legislation.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence, own transport, and non‑smoker.
• Grade 12 with Mathematics.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (completed or in progress) to qualify for SAIPA articles.
• Excellent written and spoken Afrikaans communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and time‑management abilities.
• Commitment to pursuing the SAIPA qualification.

Required skills

• Knowledge of bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and tax compliance.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero and SAGE.
