Tank Farm Operator

About the role

The Tank Farm Operator is responsible for safe and efficient operation of the hydrogen peroxide tank farm at Evonik Peroxide Afr. You will manage product handling, monitor equipment, and ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage tank farm operations according to the plant operating manual and written/verbal instructions.
• Control final dilution of various grades of hydrogen peroxide for shipment.
• Transfer and adjust finished‑product parameters in day/storage tanks and record operating conditions.
• Inspect road tankers and ISO containers for damage or contamination before filling or off‑loading.
• Carry out isolation tasks, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and support maintenance activities.
• Monitor the tank farm for abnormal conditions, faulty equipment and safety hazards.
• Drive a forklift and operate tank farm equipment as required.
• Maintain housekeeping, safety documentation and ISO 9001/14001 compliance.

Required profile

• Matric with National N6 Certificate in Chemical Engineering and minimum 10 years petrochemical/chemical plant experience, or National Diploma in Chemical Engineering with 10 years experience, or BTech Chemical Engineering with 5 years experience.
• Very good English communication skills (verbal, listening and written).
• Motivated, proactive team player with a positive attitude and strong reliability.
• Willingness to work day shifts and, when needed, night shifts and weekends.
• Own transport and a valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Forklift operation.
