About the role
The Specialist Engineer (Protection Engineering) will lead the design, planning and analysis of complex protection systems to ensure high‑quality electricity supply for the Protection Engineering Division.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain an overall protection strategy for high and medium voltage networks.
- Design, calculate and set protection equipment settings, and approve wiring additions and alterations.
- Manage budgets, supervise staff, and coordinate training and lectures for service directors and customers.
- Audit protection systems, maintain computerized protection schematics, and investigate mal‑operations.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or BSc Engineering, registered with ECSA as a Professional Electrical Engineer.
- Minimum 7 years post‑registration experience in electricity distribution or transmission.
- Valid driver’s licence and first‑aid certification (or obtainable within 6 months).
Required skills
- Power systems protection theory and application.
- Network analysis and fault level calculations.
- Protection settings calculation and equipment configuration.
- Computerised protection schematic development and maintenance.
- Protection system auditing and investigation of mal‑operations.
