Software Engineer III – Backend (Protection)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the Protection team, which helps merchants handle disputes and prevent fraud. You will own features that automate dispute management and build components of our risk‑management suite.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and ship end‑to‑end features for dispute automation, including deadline tracking, evidence collection and response templates.
• Extend dispute lifecycle coverage to new payment service providers and build components of the native rules and signals engine such as velocity rules, blocklists and device fingerprinting.
• Integrate and improve fraud‑vendor solutions (Riskified, Forter, Signifyd, Sift) and contribute to webhook‑based event systems and orchestration platforms.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping production‑ready backend or full‑stack software independently.
• Comfortable writing RFCs and making architectural decisions with minimal senior oversight.
• Willingness to transition to Python and strong instincts for testing, observability and security.
