Shift Supervisor – Sampling Operations

About the role

Bureau Veritas is looking for a Shift Supervisor to lead its sampling operations at the Durban harbour. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will ensure that all sampling activities run smoothly, safely and in line with SOPs.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all workstations are attended to promptly and that each sampler on shift receives clear duties.
• Enforce proper use, storage and maintenance of PPE for all sampling inspectors.
• Report staff management issues to maintain punctuality and discipline.
• Follow up on shipping instructions and any amendments before the shift starts.
• Maintain zero‑contamination operations and alert the client and branch supervisors of any issues.
• Visit harbour workstations to verify compliance with SOPs throughout the shift.
• Guarantee samples are clearly marked, correctly collected and delivered as required.
• Capture timestamped photographs of on‑site activities and ensure tally paperwork is completed and signed off.
• Update vessel group chats three times per shift and trace trucks for nominated products.
• Conduct stockpile sampling, temperature monitoring, safety toolbox talks and hazard mitigation.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years experience in sampling.
• Matric or equivalent with mathematics.
• Supervisory experience with strong communication skills.
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence and safe driving record.
• Ability to work independently and as a team player.
• Good leadership and decision‑making abilities.
