Shift Occupational Health Nurse (12-hour rotating shifts)

About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse will deliver a comprehensive occupational health programme for clients, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. The role operates on a 12‑hour rotating schedule, covering both day and night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate risk‑based medical surveillance programmes, including pre‑employment, baseline, annual, transfer and exit screenings.
• Manage occupational safety, health and waste activities, and oversee injury‑on‑duty case administration.
• Respond to medical emergencies within scope of practice and support worker reintegration after prolonged absence.
• Identify chronic diseases early, provide counselling, referrals and advise line management on absenteeism and sick‑leave management.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, conduct audits and monitor hazard‑exposure trends.
• Maintain occupational health service equipment, handle data capture and document management while preserving confidentiality.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate, plus a Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Certificates in Audiology, Spirometry and Vision Screening, and a valid Dispensing certificate.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and SASOHN.
• 3‑5 years of occupational health nursing experience.
• Good knowledge of the Health & Safety Act and related legislation.
• Valid driver’s licence, own insured vehicle, and willingness to work 12‑hour rotating shifts.
