Senior / Principal Mining Engineer

About the role

An internationally recognised independent mining consultancy is seeking a technically strong Senior / Principal Mining Engineer with extensive open‑pit experience. The role involves leading mining studies from concept through feasibility and delivering high‑quality engineering solutions for a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead open‑pit mining studies from concept through pre‑feasibility and feasibility, developing and reviewing mine designs, production schedules and life‑of‑mine plans.
• Prepare technical reports and mining studies to international standards, conduct optimisation, pit design and production planning.
• Evaluate mining methods, equipment selection and operational strategies, ensuring technical quality across all deliverables.
• Manage multidisciplinary mining projects, coordinating inputs from geology, geotechnical, metallurgy, processing and infrastructure disciplines.
• Deliver projects safely, on schedule and within budget while managing client expectations and reporting.
• Provide operational mining support and technical advice to clients, identifying improvement and optimisation opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, contribute to proposals, tenders and technical presentations.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers, providing technical guidance and promoting engineering excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (essential); professional registration or eligibility advantageous.
• 5–10+ years of mining engineering experience with proven open‑pit mining background.
• Strong experience in mine planning, design, production scheduling and feasibility studies (scoping, PFS, BFS).
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and deliver high‑quality technical outputs.
• Previous mining consultancy experience and practical operational mine‑site exposure are highly preferred.
