Senior Manager Legal Advisory

About the role

The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), the implementation arm of the Department of Economic Development, is recruiting a Senior Manager Legal Advisory. The role provides strategic legal guidance to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, manages legal risks and contributes to the organisation's objectives. It reports to the GE Company Secretariat and Legal.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with GGDA's goals and lead and guide the legal team
• Manage the department in line with approved policies, laws and delegated authority, and report regularly to EXCO and other structures
• Identify and manage the principal risks of the department
• Oversee legal disputes, collaborate with external legal counsel and supervise the negotiation, drafting and review of contracts and legal documents
• Advise on contractual matters and risk mitigation, and update business processes and internal policies and procedures
• Build relationships with internal stakeholders, government entities and private sector partners, and promote the GGDA's corporate image
• Provide guidance on corporate governance, including board governance and compliance with the Companies Act, King IV and the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree or NQF level 8 qualification in Law or a legal qualification
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate
• At least 5-7 years' experience in a management role in the legal field, and 10 years' experience in the legal field

What we offer

• Five-year fixed-term contract with three months' probation
• Paternon grade GGDA D5, total cost of employment of R1 295 606 per annum
