Senior Back-End Software Engineer (Java, Spring Boot)

About the role

Capitec is looking for a Senior Back‑End Software Engineer to join its Family Banking team. You will design, build and operate the backend services that enable families to manage money together, working with a modern stack that serves millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Own complex backend features from initial design through production deployment.
• Develop, test, and maintain high‑performance services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Implement event‑driven messaging with Kafka and expose RESTful APIs.
• Work with microservice and container architectures on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers and guide stakeholders through scope and delivery.

Required profile

• 6+ years of proven back‑end development experience in Java.
• Hands‑on expertise with Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS, PostgreSQL and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, design patterns, algorithms and data structures.
• Ability to design scalable microservices and event‑driven systems.
