Retail Trainee Manager – Store Operations

About the role

The Trainee Manager role supports daily store operations while providing hands‑on experience to develop into a full management position. You will work in a fast‑paced retail environment, focusing on leadership, operational excellence, and superior customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards across the shop floor and back‑office.
• Ensure security procedures are followed and merchandise/display standards are upheld.
• Conduct regular quality checks, rotate stock, and remove damaged or expired items to prevent waste and shrinkage.
• Verify accurate pricing and complete all administrative tasks promptly.
• Engage with customers, understand their needs, and provide appropriate product or service recommendations.
• Monitor budgets, analyse department profitability, and recommend actions to improve performance.
• Optimise stock levels through effective ordering and inventory management.
• Lead and motivate employees, ensuring standards are maintained and performance is developed.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification (higher qualification advantageous).
• 2–3 years retail experience.
• Ability to pass required assessments and competency‑based interviews.
• Willingness to be transferred between stores and to undergo full credit and criminal checks.
• Valid South African ID and a Code 08 driver’s licence.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem‑solving, time‑management, negotiation, attention to detail, communication, results orientation, and numeracy skills.
