QA and Deputy Responsible Pharmacist (Warehouse Distribution)

About the role

A leading pharmaceutical company in South Africa is seeking a qualified Deputy Responsible Pharmacist to oversee warehouse distribution activities. The role combines quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and operational supervision to ensure safe and effective handling of medicinal products.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with national regulations (Act 101 of 1965, Pharmacy Act 53 of 1973, SAHPRA, cGDP/GWP) and ensure the quality management system supports the SAHPRA licence.
• Develop, review, approve and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and validation protocols.
• Lead product release, batch release, audit preparation, CAPA management and deviation handling.
• Supervise logistics, stock management (S5, S6, Section 21 items), cold store, quarantine, returns and reverse logistics.
• Act as Deputy Responsible Pharmacist, performing all RP duties in the RP’s absence and handling after‑hours emergencies.
• Conduct risk assessments, interact with health authorities (SAHPRA, DOH, SAPC) and support cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) and active membership with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• 2‑3 years experience as a Pharmacist or Deputy Pharmacist, preferably in pharmaceutical distribution/wholesale.
• Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and Good Distribution & Wholesaling Practices.

Required skills

• Active SAPC registration
• Computer literacy in MS Office
• Experience with Oracle R12 (advantage)
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and cGDP/GWP compliance
