Provincial Organiser – Gauteng Province

About the role

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) is seeking a senior Provincial Organiser for its Gauteng office. The role involves leading union organising activities across the province’s education institutions and representing members at various forums.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a provincial recruitment campaign/strategy for all education institutions.
• Organise and attend launches of union structures in schools, colleges and universities.
• Assist with conducting elections within union structures.
• Represent union members at various forums.
• Ensure smooth running of the organising department.
• Coordinate organising programmes of the Provincial Executive Committee and the National Executive Committee.
• Participate in COSATU campaigns and maintain relationships with COSATU affiliates, SASCO, COSAS and other education sector stakeholders.
• Develop capacity‑building programmes for the union.

Required profile

• Post‑Matric qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
• Approximately three years of organising experience, including case management.
• Thorough understanding of the South African trade‑union movement.
• Strong negotiation, bargaining and report‑writing abilities.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work under pressure.
