Professor – Analytical Chemistry

About the role

The University of Johannesburg is seeking a Professor to join the Analytical Chemistry cluster within the Department of Chemical Sciences. The role involves teaching, research, and academic administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on both the Doornfontein and Auckland Park campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver theory and practical modules in General Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Develop and update curricula, short courses, and marketing materials.
• Supervise and mentor postgraduate students and oversee their research projects.
• Publish peer‑reviewed articles in accredited journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Secure external research funding and manage research grants.
• Participate in departmental administration, community engagement, and ad‑hoc duties.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in Analytical Chemistry.
• Minimum of 7 years of teaching experience or 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Demonstrated research excellence with a strong publication record in Analytical Chemistry or related fields.
• Ability to teach across all levels of chemistry curricula.
