About the role
The Professional Nurse – Orthopaedic joins Mediclinic’s multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, comprehensive, and high‑quality nursing care for orthopaedic patients. Working closely with doctors, therapists and support staff, the nurse ensures optimal patient outcomes while adhering to scope‑of‑practice regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver quality nursing care in collaboration with a multi‑professional team.
- Identify, prevent, and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
- Facilitate a positive client experience by creating a conducive environment.
- Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions.
- Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
- Ensure that all utilised stock and equipment are accurately charted.
Required profile
- Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse OR a 4‑year Nursing Diploma or Bachelor of Nursing.
- Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (desired).
- Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Care, Peri‑operative Nursing) for specialist units (desired).
- Essential minimum experience: none.
Required skills
- Basic life support trained (ACLS, ATLS, PALS for specialised wards).
- Computer literate – proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Develop and modify nursing care plans.
- Infection prevention and control.
- Nursing processes, procedures and record keeping.
- Patient assessment and pharmacology knowledge.
- Understanding of relevant nursing legislation and risk identification.
