Plater / Welder Assistant

About the role

The Plater / Welder Assistant supports artisans, handymen and supervisors in a busy workshop environment. The role involves maintaining equipment, assisting with material handling and ensuring safety standards are met throughout the site.

Key responsibilities

• Clean, lubricate and preserve machinery, vehicles, tools and workshop areas.
• Remove rust and perform general cleaning of parts and equipment.
• Transport tools, materials and equipment between stores, vehicles and work sites.
• Communicate messages to supervisors, handymen and artisans verbally or in writing.
• Assist with loading, positioning of materials and jigs on machinery.
• Connect and disconnect hoses, torches, gauges and safely handle gas bottles.
• Operate hand power tools under the direction of artisans and supervisors.
• Demarcate work areas and perform traffic control as required.

Required profile

• Primary education level and at least 6 months relevant experience.
• Secondary education and 1 year relevant experience preferred.
• Physically fit, able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at heights.
• Good dexterity for tool use and safe handling of equipment.

Required skills

• Use of hand power tools.
• Connection and disconnection of hoses, torches and gauges.
• Safe handling and storage of gas bottles.
• Workplace cleaning, lubrication and rust removal.
• Traffic control and work‑area demarcation.
