Member of Valuation Appeal Board – Beaufort West Municipality

About the role

The Beaufort West Municipality is seeking qualified individuals to serve on its Valuation Appeal Board. Members will adjudicate appeals against municipal valuation decisions across several areas, ensuring compliance with the Municipal Property Rates Act.

Key responsibilities

• Hear and decide appeals concerning objections to the valuation roll for Beaufort West, Nelspoort, Murraysburg, Merweville and related regions.
• Review decisions of the municipal valuer submitted under section 52 of the MPRA.
• Perform any other functions prescribed by the MPRA.

Required profile

• Chairperson: legal qualifications with substantial experience in the administration of justice (e.g., former judge, magistrate, tribunal chair).
• At least one Professional Valuer registered under the Property Valuers Profession Act, 2000, or a Professional Associated Valuer with a minimum of ten years’ experience.
• Members must not be insolvent, under curatorship, of unsound mind, convicted of a serious offence within the last five years, disqualified from practising as a valuer or lawyer, or in arrears to the municipality for more than three months.

What we offer

• Remuneration up to R5 607 per day (R701 per hour) for the Chairperson and up to R4 169 per day (R521 per hour) for other members.
• Travel allowance in accordance with national transport tariffs.
