Locum Pharmacist Assistant – Hospital Pharmacy

About the role

The Pharmacy Department at Life Bayview Private Hospital is seeking a qualified Locum Pharmacist Assistant to support after‑hours and normal business operations. Reporting to the Senior Pharmacist, you will ensure high‑quality pharmaceutical care in line with company objectives and health legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Receiving, checking and unpacking stock, and reconciling orders with invoices.
• Acquisition, control and distribution of stock to internal units.
• Ordering pharmaceutical stock, processing credits and stock transfers.
• Performing cycle counts, stock takes and investigating variances.
• Liaising with nursing staff and doctors regarding formulary and initiatives.
• Participating in the facility’s quality programmes.
• Dispensing and compounding under pharmacist supervision.
• Processing patient credits and managing emergency cupboard medication.
• Dead‑stock management and assisting with daily administrative functions.
• Retail dispensing and cash‑up duties.

Required profile

• Registration as a Post‑Basic Pharmacist Assistant with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Experience in a hospital pharmacy, preferably within a Life Healthcare facility.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work under pressure.
• Team‑oriented mindset and resilience.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with knowledge of Impilo, Unisolve and SAP pharmacy systems.
