Lecturer in English Literature (Full‑time)

About the role

The University of the Western Cape’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking a full‑time Lecturer in the Department of English. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, research‑led community and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and student development.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, tutorials and seminars in English literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Lead workshops on academic writing and literary topics.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
• Develop and coordinate courses, including curriculum design.
• Maintain an active research and publication profile.
• Participate in departmental administration and academic governance.
• Integrate community engagement into teaching and research activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in English Literature (PhD preferred or near completion).
• Strong foundation in Literatures in English and familiarity with historical development of literary forms.
• Minimum three years of teaching experience in higher education, including large lecture settings.
• Evidence of research productivity (at least one peer‑reviewed journal publication).
• Demonstrated ability to teach academic literacy and supervise research.
