About the role
The Learning Officer is responsible for co‑designing, implementing and evaluating training and development programmes that enhance the skills, safety and productivity of employees within the mining operation. This role ensures the workforce is equipped to meet current and future operational requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Apply Safety & Health principles consistently and take personal responsibility for zero‑harm outcomes.
- Facilitate engaging training sessions using e‑learning, classroom instruction and on‑the‑job methods, customizing content for diverse audiences.
- Evaluate training effectiveness, maintain compliance with industry standards and drive continuous improvement.
- Assess the impact of training on performance and operational efficiency, using feedback and performance data to refine strategies.
- Ensure programmes adhere to MQA, SAQA and other regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records for reporting.
- Co‑design comprehensive programmes based on needs assessments, covering safety, technical skills, leadership and regulatory compliance.
- Stay updated on legislative and industry changes, providing timely updates to managers and supervisors.
- Maintain quality‑controlled learning procedures and process flows across the operation.
Required profile
- NQF5 OD ETDP Level 5 Higher Certificate, Grade 12 and a Trade Certificate (Electrical or Millwright).
- Assessor and Moderator Certificates; ISO 9001:2015 Certificate (advantageous); Engineering Foreman Certificate (advantageous).
- Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience; experience as an Engineering Foreman is advantageous.
Required skills
- Proficiency in training methodologies and adult learning principles.
- Instructional design methodologies and learning technologies.
- Familiarity with digital learning platforms and data‑analytics tools for tracking performance.
- Knowledge of safety management systems, risk‑assessment techniques and incident‑investigation protocols.
- Computer literacy.
