Laboratory Technician – Sample Prep & Instrumentation

About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to support the sample preparation, fire assay, wet chemistry and instrumentation sections at SGS. The role provides both technical and supervisory assistance to ensure optimal operation and timely delivery of analytical results.

Key responsibilities

• Log received samples in CCLAS using client submission forms.
• Perform wet‑chemical leaches, dissolutions and related analyses (nickel sulphide, base metals, converter matte, nickel sulphate) following work instructions.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as ICP‑OES, auto‑titrator and LECO, including calibration, standard preparation and stock procurement.
• Record changes via Management of Change forms and conduct daily instrument maintenance.
• Report daily production figures, targets and corrective actions to the Chemist and Production Manager.
• Investigate non‑conformances, conduct root‑cause analysis and prepare improvement requests.
• Assist with client queries, LIMS data entry and production reporting.
• Stand in for senior staff during absences and support training and competency assessments.

Required profile

• Understanding of laboratory quality systems (ISO 17025) and SGS QMS.
• Ability to follow SOPs, record data accurately and communicate issues promptly.
• Experience working in a regulated analytical environment.
• Willingness to support continuous improvement and training activities.

Required skills

• ICP‑OES operation and calibration.
• LECO and auto‑titrator operation.
• Wet‑chemical techniques (nickel sulphide, base metals, converter matte, nickel sulphate leaches).
• CCLAS sample logging and LIMS usage.
• Instrument maintenance and calibration.
• Production reporting and data documentation.
