Junior Technical Officer – ICT Support

About the role

The Faculty of Engineering Computer User Area at Stellenbosch University is looking for a Junior Technical Officer to provide specialised ICT services to students and staff across computer labs, electronic classrooms and lecture halls. This entry‑level position offers a practical start to an IT career within a vibrant academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line support through the IT Helpdesk system.
• Maintain inventory, stock levels and consumable supplies for the unit.
• Assist students and staff with computer, audio‑visual and printer issues.
• Set up laptops and AV equipment for lecturers and examination venues.
• Install and roll out software in labs, lecture halls and tutorial rooms.
• Support security cameras, access control and other AV systems.
• Monitor the condition of equipment, furniture and environmental controls in all venues.
• Perform administrative tasks, report writing and ad‑hoc duties as directed by the unit manager.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Completion of a technical IT course (e.g., A+, S+, N+ or L+).
• Successful completion of the A+ certification.
• Bilingual in Afrikaans and English.
• Strong desire to start a career in information technology.
