Hospital Porter

About the role

A vacancy for a Porter has become available at Life Kingsbury Hospital, Cape Town. This position reports to Shaun Lawrence, Services Manager and will be part of a professional team that is continuously striving for the highest standards of quality in healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Transport patients from reception to wards and vice versa.
• Assist patients with wheelchairs from vehicles to reception, emergency unit and via stretcher to respective wards.
• Help patients on discharge from nursing units to hospital exit/vehicle.
• Check wheelchairs for cleanliness and repairs.
• Collect and record prescription cards, credits and requisitions from wards.
• Record and deliver ethical and surgical stock to wards safely and timely.
• Move furniture, stores and medical equipment safely.
• Set up venues for meetings and functions.
• Transfer files, specimen samples and pharmacy boxes within the hospital.
• Move gas cylinders within the hospital.
• Perform general administrative and related duties as requested.

Required profile

• Matric qualification.
• Physically fit with strength for heavy boxes, drive and energy.
• Experience in customer service or dealing with customers.
• Experience in healthcare is an advantage.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Responsible, meticulous and efficient.
• Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to work rotational shifts, including night shifts.
