Head of Business Unit – Water and Sanitation Services

About the role

The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality seeks an experienced senior leader to head the Water and Sanitation Services Business Unit. The role involves strategic oversight, operational management and transformation of water and sanitation trading services into a sustainable utility.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee strategic planning, development, management and implementation of all water and sanitation projects.
• Lead and manage the Water and Sanitation Services Directorate to achieve strategic objectives and goals.
• Drive the transformation of water and sanitation trading services into a viable, sustainable utility that supports economic growth and service delivery.
• Ensure effective human‑resources decisions that improve operational efficiency.
• Maintain robust financial management, control and corporate governance across the unit.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (NQF 8) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance (NQF 7).
• MFMA minimum competence (or commitment to achieve within 12 months of appointment).
• Minimum 10 years senior‑management experience in water and sanitation trading services, with at least five years at executive level.
• Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineer.
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Office).
