Foundry Engineer

About the role

Sulzer, a global engineering leader, is seeking a Foundry Engineer to support its casting supply chain in South Africa. Reporting to Procurement with a dotted line to Quality, you will act as the technical liaison with sand and investment casting suppliers, ensuring high‑quality production and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of sand and investment casting suppliers.
• Visit foundries locally and internationally to assess performance and drive improvements.
• Lead defect investigations, quality improvements, and process optimisation initiatives.
• Conduct audits, capability reviews, and production readiness checks.
• Review drawings, tooling, and casting feasibility early in the sourcing cycle.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to strengthen supplier capability and reduce risk.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience in foundry operations from furnace to finish.
• Strong knowledge of casting defects, metallurgy, and process controls.
• Proactive, curious mindset with the ability to challenge suppliers and drive change.
• Clear communication skills and a quality‑driven approach.
• Willingness to travel internationally, primarily within South Africa.
