Fleet Assistant Manager

About the role

Icebolethu Group is looking for a dynamic Fleet Assistant Manager to support the Fleet Manager in Durban. The role involves overseeing daily fleet operations, ensuring vehicle availability, compliance, cost control and driver supervision across a diverse fleet of hearses, passenger, commercial and support vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily fleet movements, vehicle transfers, allocations and de‑fleeting across all business units.
• Oversee preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, inspections, breakdown responses and warranty claims through approved service providers.
• Manage fleet drivers, monitor driving behaviour, enforce policy adherence, track licence renewals and conduct accident investigations.
• Ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Act, OHS regulations, vehicle licensing, permits, insurance and company SOPs.
• Monitor operating costs such as fuel, tyres, repairs and rentals, review vendor invoices and assist in budget preparation.
• Track vendor performance against SLAs, maintain accurate fleet databases and compile weekly/monthly KPI reports.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Fleet Management, Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum five years’ experience in fleet operations.
• At least two years of proven supervisory or team‑leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing medium‑to‑large commercial vehicle fleets.
• Strong proficiency with fleet management software and telematics systems.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, transport legislation, OHS Act and vehicle lifecycle management.
• People‑management, planning and decision‑making abilities under pressure.
• Experience in fleet budgeting, cost control, supplier negotiation, data analysis and report presentation.
