DevOps Engineer

About the role

Equal Experts is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join its Operability team. You will work with cross‑functional agile squads, ensuring that software not only ships quickly but also runs reliably in production for South African clients.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with developers, product owners and stakeholders to define and deliver operability requirements.
• Mentor client team members and share best practices through pair or mob programming.
• Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or GitHub Actions.
• Implement automated testing, unit tests and continuous delivery of small, production‑ready increments.
• Manage build, release and environment configurations, applying appropriate branching strategies.

Required profile

• Open to pair/mob programming and comfortable working closely with developers.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and adaptability to changing environments.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to any audience.
• Experience mentoring or supporting client teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CI tools: Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions.
• Solid command‑line experience on Linux and/or Windows.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related services (functions, containers, VMs).
• Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure ARM, Pulumi.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and unit testing.
• Understanding of telemetry, monitoring and alerting tools such as Elastic, Grafana, Datadog.
