About the role
UNICEF South Africa is seeking a consultant to provide technical and related support for the implementation of play‑based learning within the Foundation Phase Initiative (Grades R‑3). The role will work closely with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and provincial education departments to embed manipulatives and play‑based pedagogies into the national curriculum.
Key responsibilities
- Support the DBE in absorbing and integrating the Foundation Phase Initiative across national and provincial levels.
- Provide technical guidance on the use of play‑based pedagogies in the CAPS curriculum for Grades R‑3.
- Assist staff in the Directorate of Curriculum Implementation and Quality Improvement with the P.L.A.Y. online in‑service training platform.
- Oversee quality assurance, monitoring, and evaluation of play‑based learning implementation.
- Prepare technical reports for submission to HEDCOM, CEM, and Parliament.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (master’s or equivalent) in education, early childhood education, basic education, social sciences or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in curriculum implementation, early childhood education, or educational consultancy.
