Clinical Mentor – Professional Nurse or Medical Doctor (Mpumalanga)

About the role

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is seeking a Clinical Mentor to support the introduction of sub‑cutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA‑SC) in public health clinics across Mpumalanga. The mentor will work directly with nurses, pharmacists and community health workers to ensure safe, effective delivery of this new contraceptive option.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site and off‑site training to nurses, pharmacists, lay community health workers, health promoters, NGOs and CBOs on DMPA‑SC screening, dispensing and administration.
• Identify key service delivery points within clinics to integrate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV services.
• Engage stakeholders at community, facility and district levels to promote contraceptive choice and self‑care options.
• Assess training needs of Department of Health (DOH) staff and arrange appropriate training sessions.
• Prepare training content, methodologies and evaluation tools; collate and submit completed registers and assessments.
• Provide ongoing mentorship, coaching and support to ensure competency and quality service delivery.

Required profile

• Qualified Professional Nurse or Medical Doctor.
• Experience in reproductive health, contraceptive services or HIV programmes.
• Proven ability to train and mentor healthcare providers.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and advocacy skills.
• Willingness to travel to multiple learning sites within Mpumalanga.
