Civil Engineer – Pavements

About the role

WSP is seeking a Civil Engineer specialised in pavements to join its Transport & Infrastructure team in Cape Town. The role involves delivering road and highway projects through investigations, design, construction support and client‑facing delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out pavement investigations, condition assessments, surveys and pavement design.
• Perform engineering calculations, technical reporting, produce working drawings and cost estimates.
• Develop design solutions for roads, highways, municipal roads and related transport infrastructure.
• Apply pavement and materials engineering knowledge to rehabilitation, surfacing selection, layer design and construction methodology reviews.
• Review technical submissions, design reports, drawings, specifications and contractor documentation for compliance.
• Provide construction supervision and contract administration for civil and pavement works as required.
• Supply technical input on SANRAL, provincial, municipal and private sector road projects.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery.
• Assist in preparing proposals, tenders, budgets, resource estimates and technical inputs for new opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members and share technical knowledge to grow pavement engineering capability.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
• 5+ years of civil engineering experience with strong exposure to pavements, roads, highways, materials engineering or pavement rehabilitation projects.
