Chief Director – Beneficiary Support Services

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is seeking a senior leader to head Beneficiary Support Services. The role involves strategic oversight of all programmes that provide benefits to military veterans and their dependents, ensuring compliance with legislative frameworks and delivering high‑quality services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor the legislative framework governing veteran beneficiary services, including registration, eligibility verification and dispute resolution.
• Manage the veteran benefits database, ensuring data integrity, security and accurate reporting.
• Lead the transition of serving personnel to civilian life, overseeing deregistration of veterans and registration of beneficiaries.
• Coordinate with government, NGOs and other stakeholders to build partnerships and represent the department at national and provincial forums.
• Oversee budgeting, financial management and resource allocation, monitoring expenditure and performance of staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification recognised by SAQA.
• Minimum five years of senior management experience within the public service or a comparable environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of public service legislation, PFMA, strategic planning, policy development and programme/project management.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem‑solving, change management and high integrity.
